Impeach Bush & Cheney — UPHOLD THE RULE OF LAW

Welcome to the final stages of the coup…HUFFPO – As I see it now, we have but two options and I have long alluded to hoping against hope that one of these options would not be the only one left to a peaceful people. The first and frankly most preferable option is for Congress to immediately begin impeachment proceedings against the members of this latest Business Plot.No time needs to be wasted on hearings as we already now have in writing, formally as presented to Congress, the intentions of this administration to nullify Congressional powers permanently, to alter Judicial powers permanently, and to openly steal public funds using as blackmail the total collapse of the US economy if these powers are not handed over. You do see how this is blackmail, do you not? You do see how this is a manufactured crisis precisely designed to be used as blackmail, do you not?The other option, the one I have long prayed we would never need to even consider, is a total revolution. But, If Congress won’t act in its own self-defense, in the defense of democracy, in defense of us – the people who have elected them to protect us from this very danger – then what is left for us to do? I don’t want to see it come down to this, but I fear that it will. Put your party politics aside right now. We are in a crisis so dangerous that should these people succeed in their coup, your party affiliation will no longer matter, your American flag will be a nice collectible item of something that once was, and your version of God will be worshiped in secrecy because your freedoms will be owned by the few.You are no longer Republicans, Democrats, or any shade of voter. You do not live in a swing state or a solid colored state. You are simply this: an American. That is the only side that matters. So call your members of Congress and demand, no, declare that unless they do their duty to the Constitution and to us, we will move to the streets – not because we want to, but because our founding fathers demanded this duty of each and every citizen in the face of such a domestic enemy. Demand – as is your right – that this bill be voted against and demand – as is your right – that the people plotting this treachery be held to account. We are either a nation of laws or we are no longer a democracy. Pick a side, because there won’t be another time, another moment, another chance to be a patriot.

I believe we should let George Bush get away with breaking the law because the attempt to hold him accountable wouldn’t be as useful as waiting for Barack Obama to maybe become President so he could maybe investigate Bush then.

It is not simply 9/11 that needs to be remembered. We also need to remember the politicization of 9/11 and the polarizing narrative which followed, locking us into endless conflict, a war on terror which has wrought further terror worldwide and which has severely damaged our standing worldwide as an honorable, compassionate nation. As we were all victims of 9/11, so we have become victims of the interpretation of 9/11.

They Helped Create This Mess — Let’s Hand It All Over to the DemocratsCOUNTERPUNCH – Let me begin by noting that I loathe what the Democratic Party has become. Wanna know why Nancy Pelosi put “Impeachment off the table?” Because the Democrats are complicit in the Imperial assault on Iraq? Simple. Top Democrats were pre-briefed on the CIA forgeries used as “evidence” of Iraq’s ties to Al-Qaeda. The Ds said nothing in opposition and went along. That’s only one of their damnable failings re: Iraq.Add to all that the Clinton/Gore and their many Democratic Party Congressional allies sorry roles in the deregulation of Telecommunications and Finance, the out-sourcing of America’s jobs and industrial infrastructure, and a raft of assaults on the working/Middle Class and one has to see Clinton/Gore and Democrats of late, in general, as a very successful arrow in the quiver of the elites – in a very one-sided “Class War.” Clinton/Gore actually rammed through NAFTA and other corporate wet dreams that Bush the Elder failed on.And, the despicable lengths the Democrats resorted to to deny Ralph Nader a ballot spot in 2004 and other such undemocratic moves made when they are in the majority (as here in Oregon) for too long also proves their untrustworthiness. But then again, they don’t even have the fortitude to fight for elections they actually won this millennium. If they don’t even care about their own supporters’ disenfranchisement, why would they care about fair, open elections?

The Bush Indictment Project has begun. The difference between Impeachment and Indictment is like the difference between night and day. The call for Impeachment looks like a Sunday School picnic by comparison. Impeachment has its flaws. It trivializes the war crimes. It is better than nothing, but not by much. Impeachment can result in removal from office. The criminal prosecution of George W. Bush could result in a life sentence or the death penalty.

Here’s how the propaganda model works: Take an issue that is at odds with how elite policy makers view the world, say Rep. Dennis Kucinich’s (D-OH) bid to impeach President Bush in early June 2008, and evaluate the media coverage of the event. Kucinich’s attempt to impeach the President elicited a mere 132 words in every major media outlet including the New York Times, Washington Post, and CNN.com.

One of two things indisputably happened. Either a dozen senior Congress members and several well-known expert witnesses went certifiably and collectively insane, or charges of the most extreme executive abuses of power ever heard in the history of this nation were backed up by overwhelming evidence during a six-hour hearing of the House Judiciary Committee focused on the possible need to impeach the President and the Vice President. Either way, a nation with a public communications system worthy of a democracy would have learned the news.

“This is not intended to be a mere discussion of violations of law that have occurred,” said convener Lawrence Velvel, dean and cofounder of the school. “It is, rather, intended to be a planning conference at which plans will be laid and necessary organizational structures set up, to pursue the guilty as long as necessary and, if need be, to the ends of the Earth.”

The blogs are alive with the sound of Impeachment. The notices are rolling into my computer faster than I can open them, sign them and send them out to friends or family. That’s called activism, pushing back against this destructive force called Bush.
