“March of the Dead” Demonstration on Capitol HillADS – On Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009, Antiwar activists dressed all in black, with white death masks, paraded in a steady rain and in single file, past the U.S. Supreme Court, and around the U.S. Capitol, in Washington, D.C., as the new 111th Congress convened inside. The “March of the Dead” participants wore around their necks the names of those killed in conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan and Israeli Occupied Gaza. The U.S. Congress has repeatedly voted hundreds of billions of dollars to support those two wars.

So, I’m hearing a ton of arguments that we should all just let bygones be bygones, because gosh darn, there are so much more important things to do than bringing Bush apparatchniks who smashed the constitution to bits, invaded another country based on lies (a war crime that Nazis were hung for) and who were criminally incompetent in their management of the economy, Katrina and everything else, to account.Yes, we should all be BIGGER than justice, and just let bygones be bygones. What could be the harm in just saying “hey it’s over now, let’s fix the problems these criminal saps made and not bother to go after them.” (I’m sure rapists and murderers who have killed and harmed far fewer people are wondering why this standard doesn’t apply to them.)The SAME people who were responsible for Nixon’s crimes, were responsible for Iran/Contra. They and their proteges came back and were responsible for Bush, Iraq, torture, screwing up Katrina and so on.  But we’re supposed to let bygones be bygones.Yeah, and folks wonder why things like Bush happen. If you refuse to hold people of any significance responsible for crimes and screwups (like all the bank CEOs keeping their jobs) they will do it over and over again.

A simple question:  Now that Barack Obama has been swept into office, at the crest of a wave that embodies the rejection of the last eight years of George W. Bush’s maladministration of this country, is there any reason why the first order of business on November 5 should not be impeaching Bush and Cheney for their high crimes against the nation?There are a number of articles floating around today suggesting that Bush will use the last two months of his presidency to do everything in his power to thoroughly trash the place. Which war criminals and torture enablers will receive presidential pardons in their Christmas stockings?  Why should we give Bush the opportunity to insult our country and our intelligence yet again? The levers of power should be seized from these criminals and their hands should be shackled, as soon as practically possible, to keep them from doing any more damage.January 21st is not soon enough. Democrats should do what their constituents elected them to do two years ago, and take the keys away from both of the drunk drivers in the Executive Branch.

As I see it now, we have but two options. The first and frankly most preferable option is for Congress to immediately begin impeachment proceedings.  The other option, is a total revolution. Put your party politics aside right now. We are in a crisis so dangerous that should these people succeed in their coup, your party affiliation will no longer matter, your American flag will be a nice collectible item of something that once was.

Here’s how the propaganda model works: Kucinich’s attempt to impeach the President elicited a mere 132 words in every major media outlet including the New York Times, Washington Post, and CNN.com.

The blogs are alive with the sound of Impeachment. The notices are rolling into my computer faster than I can open them, sign them and send them out to friends or family. That’s called activism, pushing back against this destructive force called Bush.

The Bush gang’s parting gift: a final, frantic looting of public wealth by Naomi Klein

In the final days of the election many Republicans seem to have given up the fight for power. But don’t be fooled: that doesn’t mean they are relaxing. If you want to see real Republican elbow grease, check out the energy going into chucking great chunks of the $700bn bail-out out the door. At a recent Senate banking committee hearing, the Republican Bob Corker was fixated on this task, and with a clear deadline in mind: inauguration. “How much of it do you think may be actually spent by January 20 or so?” Corker asked Neel Kashkari, the 35-year-old former banker in charge of the bail-out.

When European colonialists realised that they had no choice but to hand over power to the indigenous citizens, they would often turn their attention to stripping the local treasury of its gold and grabbing valuable livestock. If they were really nasty, like the Portuguese in Mozambique in the mid-1970s, they poured concrete down the elevator shafts.

Nothing so barbaric for the Bush gang. Rather than open plunder, it prefers bureaucratic instruments, such as “distressed asset” auctions and the “equity purchase program”. But make no mistake: the goal is the same as it was for the defeated Portuguese – a final, frantic looting of the public wealth before they hand over the keys to the safe.

This will not be easy. If we speak the truth, they will try to silence us. If we act, they will try to stop us. But we speak for the majority, here and around the world, and as we get this going we are going to reach out to the people who have been so badly fooled by Bush and we are NOT going to stop.

The point is this: history is full of examples where people who had right on their side fought against tremendous odds and were victorious. And it is also full of examples of people passively hoping to wait it out, only to get swallowed up by a horror beyond what they ever imagined. The future is unwritten. WHICH ONE WE GET IS UP TO US.

I believe we should let George Bush get away with breaking the law because the attempt to hold him accountable wouldn’t be as useful as waiting for Barack Obama to maybe become President so he could maybe investigate Bush then.

As I see it now, we have but two options. The first and frankly most preferable option is for Congress to immediately begin impeachment proceedings.  The other option, is a total revolution. Put your party politics aside right now. We are in a crisis so dangerous that should these people succeed in their coup, your party affiliation will no longer matter, your American flag will be a nice collectible item of something that once was.

Here’s how the propaganda model works: Kucinich’s attempt to impeach the President elicited a mere 132 words in every major media outlet including the New York Times, Washington Post, and CNN.com.

The blogs are alive with the sound of Impeachment. The notices are rolling into my computer faster than I can open them, sign them and send them out to friends or family. That’s called activism, pushing back against this destructive force called Bush.

Front Window of Cindy Sheehan’s Campaign Office Shattered

At 3:30 AM Oct. 30 (Thursday), just five days before the election, the large front window of the campaign headquarters of Cindy Sheehan was shattered with pieces of glass flying all over the office. Steel grating prevented anyone from actually entering the office, but there was enough space for records and perhaps a computer with sensitive data to be taken. We are now taking inventory (8:30 Pacific Time).

Police responded about 8 AM and left a case number and a form to report missing items. They evidenced no concern that political intimidation may have been part of the motivation, or–worse still–that this may be an operation by a resuscitated “Plumbers” group. (And we do not mean “Joe the plumber.” For younger readers, search on “plumbers AND break-ins AND Nixon”.)

Informal “exit polling” of voters emerging from long voting lines (took 45 minutes to cast a ballot) at San Francisco City Hall on afternoon of Oct. 29 suggested an unanticipated but a very welcome surge for Sheehan.

Cindy Sheehan is running as an Independent against Nancy Pelosi in a very liberal district.  
The Speaker of the House can be defeated.  It has happened before.
Let’s take Nancy off the table.

I believe we should let George Bush get away with breaking the law because the attempt to hold him accountable wouldn’t be as useful as waiting for Barack Obama to maybe become President so he could maybe investigate Bush then.

As I see it now, we have but two options. The first and frankly most preferable option is for Congress to immediately begin impeachment proceedings.  The other option, is a total revolution. Put your party politics aside right now. We are in a crisis so dangerous that should these people succeed in their coup, your party affiliation will no longer matter, your American flag will be a nice collectible item of something that once was.

Here’s how the propaganda model works: Kucinich’s attempt to impeach the President elicited a mere 132 words in every major media outlet including the New York Times, Washington Post, and CNN.com.

The blogs are alive with the sound of Impeachment. The notices are rolling into my computer faster than I can open them, sign them and send them out to friends or family. That’s called activism, pushing back against this destructive force called Bush.

Financial crisis heralds era of “new seriousness”

Executives say other retailers are quietly dropping the term “luxury” from their marketing material in favor of phrases depicting shopping as relaxation and time shared with family and friends.

With credit harder to obtain, mortgage costs rising and unemployment growing in the United States, Europe and Japan, clever advertising may not be enough to persuade those who can still afford it to part with their money.

“In grim times it becomes distasteful or simply unfashionable to spend money on bling or what you might call conspicuous consumption,” said Rory Sutherland, vice-chairman at advertising agency Ogilvy.

“There will be a trend toward Swedish, Lutheran-style minimalism,” Sutherland predicted, referring to the modest, even austere, lifestyles favored by Lutherans and Swedes by reputation.

I believe we should let George Bush get away with breaking the law because the attempt to hold him accountable wouldn’t be as useful as waiting for Barack Obama to maybe become President so he could maybe investigate Bush then.

As I see it now, we have but two options. The first and frankly most preferable option is for Congress to immediately begin impeachment proceedings.  The other option, is a total revolution. Put your party politics aside right now. We are in a crisis so dangerous that should these people succeed in their coup, your party affiliation will no longer matter, your American flag will be a nice collectible item of something that once was.

Messy Elections: Can We Trust the Results?

ADS – For a country that considers itself the “greatest democracy on Earth,” the U.S. sure does run messy elections.  This year about one-third the public is voting early (something Marylanders will be voting on in a referendum on Election Day), as a result we are seeing election meltdowns in slow motion. Here is a sample of what is occurring:

Long lines, Machine breakdowns, Failure to mail absentee ballots, Incomplete ballots, Voter deception, Registration fraud, Challenges to registration, Voter suppression.

Is any of this acceptable? The U.S. has a lot of serious problems with its democracy when the very basics – registration, voting and vote counting – is filled with flaws. While this election is looking more and more like a likely landslide, after it is over these problems need to be addressed. There are solutions to many of them:

End registration problems: Universal voter registration, No more machine voting, End partisan election administration, Prosecute vote fraud.

Make voting easy: Continue to expand early voting so voters can vote at their convenience. Turn Election Day into a national holiday. The U.S. should celebrate democracy and make voting as easy as possible.

20 Killed Murdered in Deadly U.S. Drone Strike

The U.S. military has been using killer drones death machines to take out enemies murder humans for years. But those strikes have ordinarily targeted small groups, or lone individuals. Last night, an American pilotless plane reportedly killed murdered 20 people during an attack on a militant compound in Pakistan. It could well be the deadliest drone strike ever.

ES&S Touch-Screen Votes Now Flipping in TX Too! Obama/DNC Attorneys Still AWOL!

BRAD-BLOG – This is just getting worse and worse. Now it’s happening in Texas. (And in MO, if you read to the end of the article). And the vaunted “thousands of attorneys” from the Obama campaign and the DNC are still nowhere to be found.

With every incident so far reported of touch-screen vote-flipping during early voting in this year’s general election — from county to county in WV and in Nashville, TN) — it’s been the ES&S iVotronic touch-screen machine that has failed, flipping votes from one candidate to another not chosen by the voter. In most every instances [see update below], it’s been an attempted Democratic vote, flipped to a Republican, or another party.

These are the same machines that lost 18,000 votes in Democratic-leaning Sarasota County in the 2006 U.S. House Race for Katherine Harris’ old seat. The Democrat, Christine Jennings, was declared the loser to Republican Vern Buchanan (whose own wife had trouble voting for him that day), by just 369 votes. Several academic studies, and even the GAO, have been unable to rule out either tampering or hardware/software error for the disappeared 18,000 votes.

I believe we should let George Bush get away with breaking the law because the attempt to hold him accountable wouldn’t be as useful as waiting for Barack Obama to maybe become President so he could maybe investigate Bush then.

As I see it now, we have but two options. The first and frankly most preferable option is for Congress to immediately begin impeachment proceedings.  The other option, is a total revolution. Put your party politics aside right now. We are in a crisis so dangerous that should these people succeed in their coup, your party affiliation will no longer matter, your American flag will be a nice collectible item of something that once was.

Here’s how the propaganda model works: Kucinich’s attempt to impeach the President elicited a mere 132 words in every major media outlet including the New York Times, Washington Post, and CNN.com.

The blogs are alive with the sound of Impeachment. The notices are rolling into my computer faster than I can open them, sign them and send them out to friends or family. That’s called activism, pushing back against this destructive force called Bush.

DAILY-JOURNAL – Despite the uncoming end of their terms it is crucial to the integrity and reputation of our great nation that we hold Bush and Cheney accountable for their crimes against the American people and humanity at large … we must practice what we preach to the world… Impeach Bush and Cheney.

It is never too late to do the right thing. We have some incredible messes to clean up from this administration … so we need to pull together as Americans and get busy “cleaning house.” The time is now.

I believe we should let George Bush get away with breaking the law because the attempt to hold him accountable wouldn’t be as useful as waiting for Barack Obama to maybe become President so he could maybe investigate Bush then.

As I see it now, we have but two options. The first and frankly most preferable option is for Congress to immediately begin impeachment proceedings.  The other option, is a total revolution. Put your party politics aside right now. We are in a crisis so dangerous that should these people succeed in their coup, your party affiliation will no longer matter, your American flag will be a nice collectible item of something that once was.

Here’s how the propaganda model works: Kucinich’s attempt to impeach the President elicited a mere 132 words in every major media outlet including the New York Times, Washington Post, and CNN.com.

On March 4, 2008, the citizens of Marlboro and Brattleboro, VT voted “to indict Bush and Cheney for crimes against our Constitution.”

ADS – WINFIELD, W.Va. — Three Putnam County voters say electronic voting machines changed their votes from Democrats to Republicans when they cast early ballots last week.

This is the second West Virginia county where voters have reported this problem. Last week, three voters in Jackson County told The Charleston Gazette their electronic vote for “Barack Obama” kept flipping to “John McCain”.

TIME: Thursday, Oct 23, 12-1 pm

PLACE: In front of the San Francisco Chronicle Building, 901 Mission St., San Francisco. One block from Market Street and the Powell Street BART Station.

BRING: Your sign supporting Cindy Sheehan, denouncing Nancy Pelosi, or whatever you feel. Or just yourself – and your friends.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN: Every Thursday at noon since mid-September, a group of sign-carrying activists have been walking circles around the Chronicle Building, drawing attention to the Chronicle’s coddling of Nancy Pelosi, and its willful ignoring of the Cindy Sheehan campaign. On the 23rd, Cindy Sheehan (and perhaps other notables) will meet the media on the steps of the old Mint (just across the street). At 12:20, protesters will start walking circles around the Chronicle Building. Walking will continue for approx 20 minutes, allowing office workers time to get back to work.

Thousands Face Mix-Ups In Voter Registrations

Thousands of voters across the country must reestablish their eligibility in the next three weeks in order for their votes to count on Nov. 4, a result of new state registration systems that are incorrectly rejecting them.

The challenges have led to a dozen lawsuits, testy arguments among state officials and escalating partisan battles. Because many voters may not know that their names have been flagged, eligibility questions could cause added confusion on Election Day, beyond the delays that may come with a huge turnout.

I believe we should let George Bush get away with breaking the law because the attempt to hold him accountable wouldn’t be as useful as waiting for Barack Obama to maybe become President so he could maybe investigate Bush then.

As I see it now, we have but two options. The first and frankly most preferable option is for Congress to immediately begin impeachment proceedings.  The other option, is a total revolution. Put your party politics aside right now. We are in a crisis so dangerous that should these people succeed in their coup, your party affiliation will no longer matter, your American flag will be a nice collectible item of something that once was.

Here’s how the propaganda model works: Kucinich’s attempt to impeach the President elicited a mere 132 words in every major media outlet including the New York Times, Washington Post, and CNN.com.

The blogs are alive with the sound of Impeachment. The notices are rolling into my computer faster than I can open them, sign them and send them out to friends or family. That’s called activism, pushing back against this destructive force called Bush.

Two Parties: One Corporate Master

The presidential campaign trail morphed into the comedy circuit as John McCain and Barack Obama went more for laughs than the jugular in what was expected to be the corporate candidates’ last joint appearance before Election Day.

The two campaigns largely took a break from their attempts to verbally knee-cap each other for a few hours at the annual Al Smith Dinner, a charity fundraiser that has traditionally drawn the presidential corporate candidates* into a temporary truce.

* Ralph Nader, Bob Barr, and Cynthia McKinney were not invited.

I believe we should let George Bush get away with breaking the law because the attempt to hold him accountable wouldn’t be as useful as waiting for Barack Obama to maybe become President so he could maybe investigate Bush then.

As I see it now, we have but two options. The first and frankly most preferable option is for Congress to immediately begin impeachment proceedings.  The other option, is a total revolution. Put your party politics aside right now. We are in a crisis so dangerous that should these people succeed in their coup, your party affiliation will no longer matter, your American flag will be a nice collectible item of something that once was.

Here’s how the propaganda model works: Kucinich’s attempt to impeach the President elicited a mere 132 words in every major media outlet including the New York Times, Washington Post, and CNN.com.

The blogs are alive with the sound of Impeachment. The notices are rolling into my computer faster than I can open them, sign them and send them out to friends or family. That’s called activism, pushing back against this destructive force called Bush.
